Jack Kilby, in full Jack St. Clair Kilby, (born Nov. 8, 1923, Jefferson City, Mo., U.S.—died June 20, 2005, Dallas, Texas), American engineer and one of the inventors of the integrated circuit, a system of interconnected transistors on a single microchip. concept of a miniaturized, integrated circuit, piece of silicon just half-an-inch square. A year earlier, research engineer Robert Noyce had co-founded the Fairchild Semiconductor Corporation. Noyce went on to co-found Intel with Gordon Moore. The stakes were high for the new guy. In Kilby's case, that would be British radar scientist Geoffrey W.A. Kilby and TI were first to file for a patent for "miniaturized electronic circuits" in February of 1959.
